Title: Animal Farm
Author: George Orwell
Published: 1945
A pig by the name of Old Major gathers all of the animals residing at Mr. Jones' Manor Farm for an important meeting at which time he describes an ideal society where all animals are free from the tyranny of their human masters. Three days later, Old Major dies but his philosophy of Animalism has successfully taken root in the minds of the animals of Manor Farm.

Title: Anna Karenina
Author: Leo Tolstoy
A story of a woman who folds under the pressure of being a society wife. She commits adultery with a dashing man named Vronsky, abandoning her family and position, and as a result, gets pregnant. She almosts dies in childbirth, despised by her husband and ends up not believing that Vronsky loves her anymore. As a consequence of frantic terror, she commits suicide by throwing herself into a moving train.

Title: Babbitt
Author: Sinclair Lewis
Babbitt is a novel by the American novelist, short-story writer, and playwright Sinclair Lewis, first published in 1922. It is a satire about American values, and its main theme is the power of conformity and the vacuity of American life.

Title: Crime and Punishment
Author: Fyodor Dostoevsky
The novel portrays the murder of a miserly, aged pawnbroker and her younger sister by a destitute Saint Petersburg student named Raskolnikov, and the emotional, mental, and physical effects that follow.

Title: Death of a Salesman
Author: Arthur Miller
Willy, a salesman over sixty years old, who is beginning to lose his grip on reality. Willy places great emphasis on his supposed native charm and ability to make friends. According to him, he was once well known and liked throughout New England as a traveling salesman whose skills were unparalleled. His sons Biff and Happy (a nickname for Harold) were the pride and joy of the neighborhood, and his wife Linda was picturesque, smiling throughout the day. Unfortunately, time has passed, and now his life seems to be slipping out of control.

Title: Don Quixote
Author: Miguel de Cervantes
The protagonist, Alonso Quixano, is a country gentleman who has read so many stories of chivalry that he descends into fantasy and becomes convinced he is a knight errant. Together with his earthy squire Sancho Panza, the self styled Don Quixote de la Mancha sets out in search of adventure. The lady for whom Quixote seeks to toil is Dulcinea del Toboso, an imaginary object crafted from a neighbouring farmgirl by the illusion struck knight to be the object of his courtly love. Dulcinea is totally unaware of Quixote's feelings for her, nor does she actually appear in the novel.

Title: Fahrenheit 451
Author: Ray Bradbury
Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian soft science fiction novel by Ray Bradbury that was published in 1953. It is set in a society where censorship is prevalent, and moronic citizens learn only from television. Most books are banned and critical thought is suppressed.

Title: Fast Food Nation
Author: Eric Schlosser
Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal (2001) is a book by investigative journalist Eric Schlosser that examines the local and global influence of the United States fast food industry. First serialized by Rolling Stone in 1999, the book has drawn comparisons to Upton Sinclair's classic muckraking novel The Jungle.

Title: Hamlet
Author: William Shakespeare
Outside Elsinore Castle in Denmark, a ghost has begun haunting the night. The ghost bears a striking resemblance to King Hamlet, who has recently died. The watchmen who discover the ghost show Horatio, a friend of Prince Hamlet's, who suggests they show the prince. King Hamlet's ghost tells Hamlet that he was murdered by his brother Claudius, and begs Hamlet to avenge his murder. Claudius is currently the king, having married the former King Hamlet's wife Gertrude and taken the throne.

Title: King Lear
Author: William Shakespeare
The beginning of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy shows King Lear, the rapidly aging monarch of Britain, making the decision to step down from his throne. He has decided to evenly distribute his land between his three daughters, Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia. Before he does so though, he decides to test them all by asking how much they love him. Both Goneril and Regan offer the flattering answers of unconditional love that he seeks. Cordelia however, remains silent and claims there are no words to describe her love.

Madame Bovary is Emma Bovary, a doctor's wife who has adulterous affairs. She wants to escape the emptiness of provincial life pushing her to live beyond her means.

Title: Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Author: Robert Louis Stevenson
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novella written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and first published in 1886. It is about a London lawyer who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the misanthropic Edward Hyde. The work is known for its vivid portrayal of the psychopathology of a split personality, in mainstream culture the very phrase 'Jekyll and Hyde' has come to signify wild or bipolar behavior.
