Title: The Tempest

A play written by Shakespeare first labeled as comedy, later then categorized as romance. This is considered one of the greatest works by Shakespeare.

Title: Hamlet
Author: William Shakespeare
Outside Elsinore Castle in Denmark, a ghost has begun haunting the night. The ghost bears a striking resemblance to King Hamlet, who has recently died. The watchmen who discover the ghost show Horatio, a friend of Prince Hamlet's, who suggests they show the prince. King Hamlet's ghost tells Hamlet that he was murdered by his brother Claudius, and begs Hamlet to avenge his murder. Claudius is currently the king, having married the former King Hamlet's wife Gertrude and taken the throne.

Title: Othello

Othello opens in the stately city of Venice, a worldwide hub for trade and commerce. The first characters introduced are Iago, an ensign denied promotion by Othello, and Roderigo, a jealous ex-suitor of Desdemona. The two are in route to describing to Senator Brabantio the elopement of Othello and Desdemona, Brabantio’s daughter.

Title: The Merchant of Venice

The Merchant of Venice is one of William Shakespeare's best-known plays he has ever written, written sometime between 1596 and 1598. Although it is sometimes classified as a comedy and shares certain aspects with the other romantic comedies, it is perhaps more remembered for its dramatic scenes (particularly the trial scene) and is best known for its portrayal of the Jew Shylock, which has raised questions of anti-semitism.

Title: King Lear
Author: William Shakespeare
The beginning of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy shows King Lear, the rapidly aging monarch of Britain, making the decision to step down from his throne. He has decided to evenly distribute his land between his three daughters, Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia. Before he does so though, he decides to test them all by asking how much they love him. Both Goneril and Regan offer the flattering answers of unconditional love that he seeks. Cordelia however, remains silent and claims there are no words to describe her love.
