Author: Jules Verne
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a classic science fiction novel by French writer Jules Verne, published in 1870. The novel is about the fictional Captain Nemo and his submarine, Nautilus, as seen by one of his passengers, Professor Pierre Aronnax.

A Christmas Carol is a Victorian morality tale of an old and bitter miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, who undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of one evening. Mr Scrooge is a financier/money-changer who has devoted his life to the accumulation of wealth. He holds anything other than money in contempt, including friendship, love and the Christmas season.

A Connecticut Yankee sents back in time to King Arthur’s Court, where and when he was given no choice but to use his extreme knowledge to educate an ignorant race. A comical science fiction story that is better than video games, kids would have loved to read this classic adventure tales.

The story is about a nonbeliever doctor whose life and work are based on duty and responsibility. He ends up as a failure, as a healer and a physician. It says so much as to “Living without faith is like driving in a fog”.

Title: A Dog's Head
Author: Jean Dutourd
This is the story of a boy born with the head of a spaniel dog. His indifference prevents him from leading an ordinary life. He suffers much for his disability by facing daily rejection and the pain is sometimes hard to bear. For him it was so tough to fit in to this world, but that did not stop him from moving forward.

Preoccupied with mysteries, the woman asks for the help of the two men to seek the truth. They uncover grimy stories behind the mystery.

Author: S. Y. Agnon
This Story tells us of an old age rich Jewish tradition love story. Set in early 1900’s, a young man who hopelessly falls in love with an orphan girl he can’t marry. His mother sets him up instead with a pretty prominent Jewish girl. As the prologue begins, the reader might think of a typical Romeo and Juliet love story. But Agnon made it suggestive; his simple story leads a discreet course between romance and tragedy.

Title: A Study in Scarlet
Author: Arthur Conan Doyle
The very first Sherlock Holmes story, and was also the first of Conan Doyle's books to be published. This mystery and murder story is divided into two parts; the action up until the arrest of the murderer, and the second part a detailed back-story of the murderer's life and motives, previously unexplained. These seemingly unrelated stories eventually overlap, but the ending consists of Holmes merely marking off the clues which have led him to solve the murders.

Author: Charles Dickens
A Tale of Two Cities (1859) is a historical novel by Charles Dickens that centers on the years leading up to the French Revolution and culminates in the Jacobin Reign of Terror. It follows the stories of two men, Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton, who are physically similar but very different in personality; Darnay is a romantic French aristocrat, while Carton is a cynical English barrister. The two are connected, however, by their love for the same woman, Lucie Manette.

Title: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Author: Betty Smith
Based in early twentieth-century Brooklyn, it tells the story of Francie Nolan and her family’s fight on poverty. Despite their struggles, the characters are still infused with hope and optimism that being poor is not a hindrance for them to dream, to desire, and to work it out from themselves. The book was written in 1943 based on Smith’s own experiences, and her portrayal of New York’s poor was considered controversial at that time.

Author: Darcy O'Brien
A Way of Life, Like Any Other is a delightful semi-autobiographical book based on the childhood of author, Darcy O'Brien. His parents were both Hollywood stars in the 30s. His father was George O'Brien--also known as the Chest and he starred in many cowboy films--including She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Riders of the Purple Sage. Darcy O'Brien's mother was actress Marguerite Churchill.

The story opens in a carpentry workshop on June 18, 1799 in the town of Hayslope in Loamshire, England. As Adam Bede, his brother Seth Bede, Wiry Ben, and two other carpenters chat while completing their work for the day, Seth’s mind is pre-occupied with Dinah Morris’ thoughts making him unfocused with his work; the door he just finishes has no panels on it. Dinah Morris is a Methodist preacher who will be at the village lawn that evening and he plans to see her.
