The main character of the story is Robin the son of Sir John de Bureford. Robin's parents need to be with king and queen to serve them during the war. They left Robin under the care of their servants. While his parents are away, Robin was hit by a crippling disease prompting their servants to abandon him as they were afraid that Robin was hit by the plague that's sweeping across England during that time. Robin is now alone, paralyzed and in deep agony fearing that no one will love and accept him because of his condition. Robin has been dreaming to be a knight, like his father, someday. But then, his dreams were now shattered because of his inability to fulfill his roles and duties as a son of a nobleman.

Brother Luke, a friar, came and rescued Robin from his loneliness and brought him to the monastery. Brother Luke taught and trained Robin how to swim and carve wood and other activities that don't only strengthen Robin's physical strength but improves Robin's patience. Brother Luke is also constantly nurturing Robin's mind with wisdom words saying he only needs a willing heart and pure determination to do a noble act. During his training did Brother Luke told him that "Before overcoming a challenge you must first find the door in the wall".

One day, they Robin got a letter from his father instructing him together with Brother Luke and John Go-in-the-Wynd to go to the castle village in Shropshire. On their journey to the castle, they encountered so many hurdles like almost being robbed by thieves, going on the wrong road several times and even sleeping in a woodman's house for a night. They get there after traveling for long hours.

One day when John Go-in-the-Wynd went out of the village, the army of Welsh besieged the castle and they are unable to send word for help. Realizing the advantage of his condition, Robin volunteered to go out of the castle so he can ask for assistance. Robin, disguised as a poor shepherd boy, proceeded to his dangerous mission, swims the moat and crossed through enemy lines without raising suspicion. Robin was able to reach and alerted John Go-in-the-Wynd about the situation in the castle who proceeded to ask for for another Knight's help and so they were able to defeat the Welsh army.

Robin was reunited with his parents in the castle on Christmas eve. They embrace their son reassured him that they love him more for his courage and brave spirit than for crippled physical condition. Robin was knighted by the king for his courageous deeds in servicing the crown.
