Amos Fortune was born as At-mun, the son of an African king. He grew up believing that his role as prince is to serve his people. In 1725, when he was 15 years old, their tribe was attacked and he was captured by slave traders. They were brought to the United States and were sold as slaves in an auction.
Luckily, At-mun was bought by the kindhearted Quaker family who named him Amos and welcomed him as part of the family. For many years he worked as a slave, Amos did not stop hoping that someday he and his people will be free. As he is serving the Quaker family. he learned to read and speak English and soon leared to embrace the teachings about their God. He then came to understand that his royalty has been restored because he is actually a child of God.
For the rest of his life, Amos continues the work he believes he was born which is to serve his people. Through his life journey, Amos has his complete trust in God. He never stopped seeking freedom for his people and himself but he knew that he already found freedom in God.
