[edit] Overview

This Story tells us of an old age rich Jewish tradition love story. Set in early 1900’s, a young man who hopelessly falls in love with an orphan girl he can’t marry. His mother sets him up instead with a pretty prominent Jewish girl. As the prologue begins, the reader might think of a typical Romeo and Juliet love story. But Agnon made it suggestive; his simple story leads a discreet course between romance and tragedy.
